The Stick has become a standard training device at each level of practically every sport. Pre-activity stretching of muscle, without hyper-extending the joint, is a benefit beyond measure in certain sports. Post-activity use enhances and accelerates muscle recovery, which in turn leads to elevation of performance. Professionals report that strength , flexibility, and endurance occur naturally with release of the myofascia and inactivation of offending trigger points.
The Intracell Stick provides myofascial release and trigger point therapy by segmentally elongating muscle bundles. It can simultaneously release multiple lesions in minimal time with virtually no physical effort because of it’s unique design qualities.

]]>“As I’m writing this review, I have my posture curve propped up behind me and massaging and supporting my back. If you could see me now! Eyes like Buddha. I often times have tight back muscles up and down either side of my spine. Much of this is due to my posture and having weaker muscles skipping out on their job. Yes, even Pilates teacher and massage therapists have their moments. When I saw this massage tool at TRE (The Running Event) in Austin this past winter, I was immediately drawn to it. If you’re drawn to a firm and specific pressure, this tool is for you. If you slouch all day at your desk, this is for you too.
When you place it behind you, the points press on either side of your spine. The pressure provides feedback to your pelvis and spine and helps your spine to find its natural curves. Of course you can dig into it and reap benefits of a trigger point type of massage while you’re sitting at your desk, (your coworkers might wonder why you’re squirming and oohing and ahing in your seat) but if you place the posture curve so that the points are on either side of your low back and you lean back into your chair, voila, you find your natural curve in your low back. Superb relief from the norm of rounding and slumping forward.
If you wish to get more intense with it, lie down. Be forewarned though, the Posture Curve is hard and offers no cushion. Low back pain is often associated with tightness in the glutes as well. Place the Posture Curve at tender spots on the hips and simply breathe while the tension releases. This is no joke. For those of you who like specific work and deep therapeutic relief, I do recommend this tool. For those who recoil at the thought of pressure points, you may have to work your way up to using this tool for trigger point work.
The Posture Curve also partnered up with the makers of The Stick and The Trigger Wheel. Both are equally great massage tools to have on hand or keep in the office. I especially like the Trigger Wheel. You can throw it in your purse.” (Read full article: Top 5 Massage Tools of 2015).

In my opinion, the most important booth at the Marathon Expo didn’t belong to an apparel manufacturer but rather to Atlanta-based Intracell Technology, which was selling “The Stick” (thestick.com). The company’s motto is that “The Stick is like a toothbrush for your muscles.”
The Stick is a rod composed of various circular beads that massage the iliotibial (better known as simply “IT”) band of the leg. The IT band is the ligament that runs along the outside of the thigh from the hip down to the shin. It easily gets sore and painful with even a minimal amount of everyday wear and tear, let alone exercise. The Stick massages that area and improves circulation, which greatly reduces pain.
Thanks for the mention and review of The Stick!

On September 12, 2011, the Los Angeles Times published an article by Roy M. Wallack on proper recovery; ways to work out the kinks after a workout. In the article, our Hybrid Stick was quoted as “The Graddaddy of Recovery.” The following is an excerpt of the article and a link to read the full story:
The Hybrid Stick: New 23-inch version of the Stick, a popular recovery/self-massage device that includes two handles and 13 beveled plastic spindles, including a raised center bevel that allows users to roll out muscles like pizza dough.
Likes: Idiot-proof, bomb-proof and effective. The raised, gently rounded center spindle, combined with the device’s slight flexibility, allows for deep penetration into tight spots that the regular Stick can’t reach. Good for quick, precise targeting of trouble spots like the calf muscles and the iliotibial bands in the outer thighs. Inexpensive and compact, the 12-ounce Hybrid is easy to bring to races or the gym for warm-up and recovery. No wonder it’s beloved by runners, football players and other athletes.
Dislikes: None

The Stick
Perfect for runners who complain about their aches and pains. £31.99, from www.the-stick.co.uk and branches of Runners Need (020 7278 9486, runnersneed.co.uk)
One of the nicest things about taking part in the Great South Run earlier this year was the post-race massage. An army of physios were on hand to rub away the aches, which really did help. Alas, attempts at persuading my partner to massage the knots away are not always successful. And splashing out on a sports massage is a bit of an extravagance. So this Christmas, I’m hoping for a new piece of kit called the Stick, so I can do the job myself.
Shaped like a magic wand, the flexible rod is made up of spindles that roll independently of each other. The idea is to hold it at either end and roll it up and down the core muscles of the legs.
It can be used before exercise to loosen muscles or as a recovery tool afterwards. Flexing the stick around the leg ensures that pressure is applied evenly across the spindles, so they work like the kneading fingers of an expert masseur. And it achieves the same result – restoring life to damaged muscle tissue. This isn’t something I’d normally buy myself – which makes it the ideal gift. And as staying injury-free is a constant battle, the Stick could be a very useful weapon in my armoury (Read full article here).
